Day 15, Monday, May 5

Spring Valley, Ohio, to Cincinnati, Ohio

The cycling on the 15th day of the trip was relatively unremarkable, which was fine by me. The weather forecast for the morning was good, with the possibility of showers in the afternoon, so once again we would be racing the weather to our destination. We had another Warm Showers host lined up, so a little shower would not hurt us, but I had no desire to be biking through rain, again, any time soon.

We packed up our bikes, said goodbye to Morel, the cat, and a few geese that had wandered out of the barn, and we were on our way. Our stops were brief as we raced down the Little Miami Scenic Trail.

The trail is indeed scenic, as it winds along the bank of the Little Miami, headed toward the Ohio. It was all downhill, and in our haste to reach the city by early afternoon I took no pictures. It seems that mentally I have adjusted to the trip so that a 60-mile ride along a beautiful midwest bicycle trail has become routine. I need to be more careful to appreciate this experience.

I did take one picture when I made a navigational error as we approached the city that resulted in riding through a bog, coating our tires and bikes in mud. That's John looking for a way up onto the bridge we should have been on.

We eventually made it to our host's apartment in On the Rhine, a great neighborhood in downtown Cincinnati. Oddly enough, Suzanne was cycling into the city with a friend, Yohann, on the same trail we were on, just a few of hours behind. She gave us the code to get in, so we stowed our bikes and went in search of food.

Eventually the two of them arrived after two 70+ mile days, but she still cooked a great pasta dinner for us. We talked late into the night (that is, until about 9:00 PM) about cycling.
