Week 5, May 19 - May 25

For the week

Ascent:  14,115 feet

For the tour
Distance ridden: 1850 miles
Time riding: 167:43:25
Ascent: 56,898 feet

After four weeks with just one zero day, we took two this week. The first was forced on us by severe weather as we hunkered down in Hamilton, Missouri. In truth, though, I needed it.

After that we had three difficult days in the hills of northwestern Missouri, fighting wind and gravity. Despite riding only five days, we had our biggest week of ascent, climbing just shy of 14,000 feet. Most of that came in three days, all into the wind.

On the third of those days we finally reached Iowa and the Wabash Trace rail trail. The rest of the week was filled with exceptional riding and great experiences, including our stay with Meg and Jim in Papillion.

All in all it was a good week. I just have to remember on days we struggle that better days are ahead.
