Day 47, Friday, June 6: Another zero day
Casper, Wyoming
We slept in, until 6:00 AM. John made coffee in our basement apartment, and later on we could hear Loraine, our Warm Showers host, putting breakfast on. We wandered upstairs and had another great meal: sausage balls, eggs, fruit, and toast with homemade jam. John had more cookies.
We had a 10:00 appointment to have our bikes tuned. Unfortunately, the shop was several miles away. We had tried to have them tuned at a closer shop. One was closed and one was short-staffed for the weekend. I guess they heard we were coming. (Actually, they were all headed to a gravel bike race somewhere nearby.)
We headed out after saying our goodbyes to Loraine and Charlie. They were leaving around midday to go camping, but they left us the door codes so we could spend another night there. They really were wonderful hosts.
I did get a picture of Charlie with the travel trailer he built. It is made from 2" insulation foam you find at the big box home supply stores, them conferred with canvas. It is quite incredible.
We got to the bike shop for our 10:00 appointment. The owner thought he would have them done in a couple of hours. There was little to do on the area so we went to a coffee shop. After a while there we decided to go back and wait outside the shop so we could get out of there as soon as they were done.
So we sat outside the shop. And sat. And sat. We ended up sitting there until after 3:00 PM. In some ways it did not matter too much. We were resting, and that's what counts on zero days. But we had hoped to see a bit of downtown Casper.
We did manage to do our laundry and shop for supplies. We also had beers at the Black Tooth Brewery and dinner from the food truck there, so the day was not a total loss. As always, we went to bed early. We had a big day ahead of us the next day, bigger than we knew.
